πΎ VBβG RAM G Scheme 2026 β Complete Information
π 1. About VBβG RAM G Scheme
Full Name: Viksit Bharat β Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin)
Act Name: Viksit Bharat β Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin): VBβG RAM G Act, 2025.
The VBβG RAM G Scheme is a Government of India rural employment and development programme implemented through the Ministry of Rural Development. It aims to provide wage employment to eligible rural households while creating durable public assets, improving village infrastructure, strengthening water security, and supporting sustainable rural livelihoods.
The Act came into force across rural India on 1 July 2026, replacing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2005. The new framework provides a statutory guarantee of up to 125 days of wage employment per financial year per eligible rural household.
Official reference: PIB Press Release
π― 2. Main Objectives
- Enhance livelihood security in rural areas by guaranteeing wage employment.
- Create durable, high-quality public community assets.
- Strengthen water security, soil conservation, and agricultural infrastructure.
- Mitigate extreme weather conditions and build climate resilience in villages.
π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦ 3. Eligibility Criteria
A household may be eligible if it meets the following conditions:
- Must be a resident household of the rural area concerned.
- Adult members must volunteer to undertake unskilled manual work.
- Must hold or be issued a valid Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Card / Job Card.
Important: The employment guarantee is calculated per household, not separately as 125 days for every individual family member. The exact registration and verification requirements must follow the applicable J&K scheme instructions.
π 4. Employment Guarantee β 125 Days
The Act increases the statutory employment guarantee from 100 days under the previous MGNREGA framework to 125 days per financial year per eligible rural household.
The employment is provided when eligible adult household members volunteer to perform unskilled manual work.
Key points:
- Guarantee applies per household, shared among adult members.
- Work is provided locally within reasonable distance of the village.
- Provides safety net during lean agricultural seasons.
πͺͺ 5. Job Card / Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Card
The employment guarantee card records the household's registration and eligible workers under the programme.
Existing MGNREGA Job Cards: According to the Ministry of Rural Development's published FAQ, existing MGNREGA Job Cards for workers whose e-KYC has been completed remain valid until the new Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Cards are issued.
New Registration: Households without an existing job card may apply through the concerned Gram Panchayat by submitting the names, ages, and address details of household members.
Documents and Details Generally Required:
- Aadhaar details for e-KYC verification.
- Bank account/Post Office account details linked with Aadhaar for DBT payments.
- Proof of rural residence and household details.
- Passport-sized photographs of adult household members.
Note: This is a general preparation checklist, not a claim that every item is mandatory in every case. Applicants should confirm the current J&K registration checklist before applying.
π 6. How to Apply for a Job Card
Where to apply: The concerned Gram Panchayat is the primary point for household registration. Applications can be submitted in writing or orally to the Gram Panchayat functionary.
π οΈ 7. How to Demand Employment
Registration alone does not mean that a worker has automatically been assigned a job. Eligible household members must demand employment by applying to the Gram Panchayat.
The official FAQ states that employment must be provided within 15 days of the application. If employment is not provided within the stipulated period, an unemployment allowance may become payable under the applicable provisions.
π° 8. Wage Rates and Payment
Wages are paid for the work performed at the applicable notified wage rate directly into bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The official FAQ specifies delay compensation of 0.05% of unpaid wages per day of delay, subject to applicable provisions.
Important: Do not publish a single wage amount as the current J&K rate without checking the latest official notification applicable to Jammu and Kashmir.
βοΈ 9. Unemployment Allowance
If employment is not provided within 15 days of a valid employment demand, an eligible household may qualify for an unemployment allowance under the Act.
Minimum Rates (as per official FAQ):
- First 30 days: At least 1/4th of the notified wage rate.
- Beyond 30 days: At least 1/2 of the notified wage rate.
The allowance is payable by the State Government according to the Act and applicable rules. Eligibility, calculation, exclusions, and claim procedures must be verified with the Programme Officer or competent authority.
π 10. Types of Works Permitted
The scheme focuses on four major categories of public works:
A. Water Security Works: Check dams, pond desilting, rainwater harvesting, rejuvenation of traditional water bodies.
B. Core Rural Infrastructure: Village pathways, drainage systems, rural connectivity roads, community halls.
C. Livelihood-Related Infrastructure: Cattle sheds, goat sheds, composting pits, land development for small/marginal farmers.
D. Extreme Weather Mitigation Works: Tree plantation, flood protection bunds, soil conservation structures.
Important: These are illustrative examples. Every work must fall within the permitted categories, be included in the approved village plan, and satisfy applicable technical and administrative rules.
π‘ 11. VBβG RAM G and PMAY-G Rural Housing
The programme can support eligible Pradhan Mantri Awaas YojanaβGramin (PMAY-G) housing works through wage employment.
The official FAQ provides for 90/95 person-days of wage support for eligible PMAY-G housing works, subject to applicable guidelines and eligibility.
This wage support is separate from the housing assistance sanctioned under PMAY-G. It is not an additional 125-day guarantee exclusively for every PMAY-G beneficiary.
